Delta
Force was created in 1979, modeled after the
British Special Air Service (SAS). The goal
of this highly secretive unit was to serve as an
overseas Commando and Counter-Terrorist unit
which specialized in Hostage rescue, barricade
operations and the nation's most sensitive
military operations. Members of the unit
are said to be the world's best specialists in
Close Quarters Battle (CQB). The recruits
for Delta Force consisted mainly of volunteers
from other elite military branches, such as the
82nd Airborne, the Special Force's Green Berets
and the Army's Rangers. The exact
composition and strength of Delta Force are
closely guarded secrets.
